The construction sector has been in the news a lot lately. Due to the nitrogen crisis and the housing shortage, the attention it receives is often negative. However, there are also positive developments in the industry. In recent years, sustainability has become increasingly central to the future of construction. This includes innovative building solutions. As a result, concrete housing structures may soon make way for more wood, steel, and biobased developed homes.
Do you want to build biobased? Embrace magnesium oxide
As the construction sector continues to evolve, magnesium oxide is emerging as a key player in sustainable building materials. Its low CO2 footprint, A1 fire resistance classification, low environmental impact, and versatility make it an excellent choice for environmentally conscious builders and architects. By embracing magnesium oxide, the construction industry can reduce its environmental impact, create safe structures, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
Traditional building materials versus Biobased building materials
We currently build primarily with materials based on cement and concrete. The downside of this is the high CO2 emissions associated with the production of these building materials. The total CO2 emissions of concrete, for example, are estimated to be at least 750 kg per metric ton. The main phase in CO2 emissions during cement/concrete production is the calcination process, which takes place at temperatures around 700°C. Over 80% of the CO2 is emitted during the calcination process: 600 kg per metric ton.
MAGOXX® Board is made from magnesium oxide. Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a salt found in the earth (stones) or underground (salt layers). It is the basis for a versatile building material. During the production of MAGOXX Board, a much lower temperature of 400°C is required for the calcination of MgO. Afterward, the MgO is used to produce the building panels at a temperature of 35°C. Therefore, less heating energy is needed during the production of our building boards. This can lead to up to 60% lower CO2 emissions in the entire production process.
In addition to all the sustainable properties, MAGOXX Board also creates a healthier indoor environment. MAGOXX Board regulates humidity well and improves air quality.
Applications of Magnesium Oxide
Wall Panels
MAGOXX Board provides an ideal surface for painting, gluing, or tiling.
Roof Cladding
MAGOXX Board is lightweight and extremely strong, making it the ideal choice for roofing applications. It is certified with fire class A1 and offers protection against moisture and rain.
Flooring
MAGOXX Board can be used for a durable and environmentally friendly flooring solution. It is a perfect material for use above underfloor heating systems due to its excellent thermal conductivity.
Facade Cladding
MAGOXX Board withstands all weather conditions. Bio-based facade systems with the white MAGOXX board (4mm/6mm/9mm/12mm) offer high vapor permeability (mu-value), making them suitable for use with flax, hemp, or cellulose in facades.
Interior Cladding
Who says sustainable board material is only meant for practical solutions? We offer beautiful wood, stone, and tile finishes, all based on MAGOXX Board.
